Week 20-Listen to conference everyone!

Hey Y'all,

I don't know how many of you listened to/watched the general woman's
meeting this past Saturday but if you didn't, I strongly invite you to
watch it!:) I learned so much and felt the spirit so strongly during
the broadcast.  One of my favorite things I learned was if you ever
question the fact that you are a son or daughter of God, if you ever
think that you don't have worth, all you have to do is ask Heavenly
Father. "Heavenly Father, am I your daughter?" As simple as that, and
when we ask and then listen, he will answer! And He will tell you that
he loves you:) I also learned that we must believe that we are loved
first before we can really love others. When we learn to love
ourselves, our love for others will grow exponentially and we will be
able to change the lives of others! I hope you were all able to learn
things you needed as well, and remember to love yourself!!

Some missionary moments of the week! About 2 weeks ago we went to
teach our investigator and the goal was to teach her about the word of
wisdom. She has a smoking problem and wants to be baptized so bad but
you can't be baptized until you quit so we were going to teach her and
help her. We started by asking how her week was and she goes, "these
past few days have been really hard." And we're like "oh no, why??"
And she says, "well it's just really hard to quit smoking." Sister
Hunt and I look at each other, mind you, we haven't taught anything
yet! We didn't even know she knew about the word of wisdom! So we
asked, "wait you really already started to quit, cause we were gonna
teach that today!" And she told us that she had heard she had to quit
before she got baptized so she dropped it and wasn't going back! It
was so amazing to see how she has such a desire to come closer to
Christ and will do anything to get there. She's incredible and now
hasn't smoked for almost 2 weeks! I can't wait for her to get baptized
it a couple weeks:)

Another great moment with this same investigator was of the wards put
on a musical fireside and it was great!! The spirit comes so strong
when we sing and she said the whole time she didn't even think about
smoking, only the music and thinking about being able to go to the
temple. Isn't that such a beautiful thing? Also bonus side note, one
of the songs sang was called "how can I be" which is one of my
favorite songs that my brother Charlie used to always sing. (So shout
out to Char for jamming out on his uke to such great songs haha:)

And one last great thing! We just heard that our investigator that has
been out of town staying with family for almost 3 months now is coming
home!:) I was so excited, dancing around the house and my comp just
thinks I'm crazy but man I'm so excited about this whole salvation
thing!!!! I just love being a missionary:)

I hope everyone has a chance to watch conference this weekend to learn
of what out savior and Heavenly Father would tell us if they were
here.  I know we all can receive answers to questions, direction and
comfort as we listen to the words of the prophet and apostles. I know
this church really is lead by God. I wouldn't be able to do any of
this work with out Him! I love you all!!
And don't forget, all is well and God is good:)

I think Courtney's companions must think it's just nuts that she sees so many people that she knows. It must have been the summer to visit Independence and Courtney just happened to be in the Visitor Center. The Ortons are in our ward and Brother Orton is in our bishopric.

Rough day taking a break in the guides room during lunch!  Sister Hunt, Hermana Lamb in the back, Hermana Delgado on the couch and me!

We survived transfers! Sister Hunt and I are still together in the same 

ward and we're pretty excited about it:) Our zone has some new

goals to really get the work moving this transfer and the main goal is
daily contacting! So daily contacting is anyone who you talk to that
you weren't planning on; example, someone working in the garden as you
walk by, or someone walking their dog. The point of this is to really
just getting us talking with everyone! Each day we make a goal and
basically Sister Hunt and I have decided we're not going home until we
get that goal every day!

The first day we set our goal we only set a goal of 1 because we had
to contact a referral and had to be in the visitors’ center in a half
hour, so we had like no time! But after getting the door slammed in
our face, pretty common in the daily missionary life:) we had some
extra time so we knew we could do it! We tried to talk with a woman
but she was not having it...she still counted though because we tried
to talk. So we decided we needed to go back to be on time to the VC
and even though it wasn't really successful, we got our goal so it's
okay, then we turn around and there's a man walking right by us!!

So I called out "hey, how are ya??" And he looked over and said in
broken English, "sorry I don't speak English well." And I got the
biggest smile on my face and said, "esta bien, yo hablo espanol!"
(It's okay, I speak Spanish!) to make a long story short we had such a
good conversation and he wanted to know what we believed so we're
going to back and see him soon. But we wouldn't have talked to him if
we weren't trying to get our goal! I know the lord is really directing
us even in these little things:)


And this is also one of the examples of how missionaries are socially
unacceptable..haha the sisters and I were talking this week about how
if you think about it, it's not normal to knock on random doors, find
people in parking lots to talk to, dress up every day when it's
sweltering hot and humid and talk about Jesus to everyone!! It's really
not a normal thing, but I love doing it!:) haha it takes me out of my
comfort zone which is good, because there's no growth in a comfort
zone:)

And in case anyone out there doesn't know, general conference is
coming up next week!!!:) (basically like the super bowl for
missionaries;) ) We get to hear from modern day prophets the things
that our Heavenly Father wants us to know right now, isn't that an
incredible blessing?? So just like we prepare for the super bowl by
stocking up on food, family, friends and fan gear, we should be
preparing for general conference! We can prepare by thinking about
questions that we need answers to and pray for those questions to be
answered. I know as we prepare and pray for those questions, they will
be answered.

I know Jesus Christ is our savior, that the bible and Book of Mormon
together help us to know his will for us, along with modem prophets,
and if we pray to him he will answer the questions we have though the
Holy Ghost. I love this work, and I love all of you!! Hope all is
well:)

You don't know me, but we were lucky enough to meet your sweet daughter at the visitor center in Independence Missouri today. She gave me enough info so I found you on Facebook. I thought I would share the picture we got of her. She spoke at length of her love for the Savior and how much she loves what she is doing.

Week 18- Prayer is a conversation

Mission POSSIBLE!

I'm doing so well out here and our investigators are great!! We have 2

investigators right now that are progressing. one is praying to know
what day she should prepare for to get baptized which we are so
excited about:) The other we just met! She just walked into church
with her daughter who is a less active but wants to return to church!
We had a lesson with her and she really wants to know more. We are
meeting with her tomorrow and are planning to invite her to be
baptized as well! She has such a great desire and is the sweetest
lady:)

I love helping people to understand more about god's love for them,
and I love being able to see the change in their face as they
understand more.  They look happier and brighter and I know that it's
the spirit of the gospel in their lives.  It's such a blessing for me
to be involved in this incredible work:)

Transfers are this week though, which no one likes, so my pday may
change to Monday or Thursday we'll have to see:) change is hard but if
I've learned anything about being on the mission, uncomfortable is
key:) we don't learn in our comfort zone, so I'm learning so much
because I'm so uncomfortable always!:)

On a spiritual note I have learned so much about prayer this week.
Prayer is just a conversation with God, telling him how we feel, what
we think, what we did, and just all of it.  When we have a real
conversation people we don't just talk all the time.  We listen too.
That's what we need to do with prayers! Don't just talk and move on
with your day. Talk and then listen, and I promise he will answer.  I
know this church is true and that God really does listen to and answer
our prayers if we are willing to listen. So this week I challenge you
to evaluate your prayers, make them more genuine, more of a
conversation, and I know you will be able to build your relationship
with God.

Oh my goodness mom I just got my quilt and I cried hahahaha. It's seriously the cutest idea!!! All the sisters loved it and I'm going to have them sign it and take it into the VC and have all the senior couples sign it too!!! Thanks so much for always thinking of me:) I

love you so much mom!!:) Also, I thought I said thank you for the clothes you sent but I must have forgotten! They all fit really well and they're so cute:) Thank you thank you thank you! You're the best mom:) I hope you have a great week!!:)

Friday Morning Training Meeting (FMTM) we did the Mormon Walking Trail around Independence Square with all the sisters.  This is the temple lot across the street, where we started the walking trail at. There is a group from the Church of Christ thatmeets there every single morning from about 5:30am to around 10am to pray for the second coming. 

We had an adventure when one of the sisters burnt a bag of popcorn in the guides room and set the fire alarm off.  We lost all our guests and smelt like burnt popcorn all day.  So...needless to say, popcorn is no longer allowed at the visitor center for us.

Week 17-10 minutes may change your life!

Hello every one!!

This week I have really seen how happy being a servant of the Lord
makes me. It's kind of a weird thing, we wake up so early, we don't
take naps (which are my favorite at home), we study for 4 hours a day,
we are talking to people all day long, going and going for 16 hours a
day, non stop. Then we hit the pillow, the alarm goes off again in the
morning and we go again, every day of the week with no breaks,
holidays or weekends. It’s seriously so crazy and doesn't really
make sense, but I have never been so happy in my life.

This gospel really is full of hope and love and joy, that's all it is!
I wish that all the people that we try to talk to, and all the people
in the world really, would just put their judgments away for just 10
minutes. Just give me 10 minutes to explain why I think I’m the
happiest person in the world. To tell them that I know with my whole
heart that Jesus is the Christ, He is our Savior and he loves us so
much. That our Heavenly Father knows us personally, that he listens
when you pray. Think about that, the creator of the universe listens
to my simple, weak prayer. And I know if He listens to mine, He
listens to yours. And guess what? Because they love us so much they
have given us a plan to help us be happy, it's called the plan of
happiness! Through this plan of happiness we get to live with our
Father in Heaven, our Savior Jesus Christ and our families forever.
FOREVER. How happy is that? Don't you want that? Just 10 minutes of
listening with no judgments might open a whole new world and change
your whole life, it's changed mine.

I'm here on a mission because of this happiness that I feel. It's not
happiness that will be short lived, or fade away or be outdated, it
will be forever.  My goal is to touch everyone's life with this
happiness for good, to show them what kind of happiness living the
gospel of Jesus Christ can bring. So my little challenge for this week
for y'all is to put this to the test! I don't expect you all to just
believe my testimony, I want you all to have your own. Live these
principles because you want to, not because you have to. Pray, don't
just read but study the scriptures, go to church, seek for service,
really try to be like the savior. When you actually live the gospel,
the gospel will change your life. Just try it--Moroni 10:3-5.

I love you all and the missionary work here is great here I love it
all! I'll tell you all more about it next week, but I felt this
thought was more important for now:) I hope all is well at home! Thank
you for all your prayers and know I pray for your safety and success
every day! And even when days are hard, remember, all is well and God
is good!

The sisters in the Willis House.  I used to live in the Doll House but I moved a few streets over to the Willis House and there are 4 companionships and I love it!!  Sister Hafoka, Hixon, Hansen, me, Morgan and Day.
